Alloy Powder Cobalt-Based Alloy Powder

Co-Cr-W Stellite-equivalent powders for extreme wear and high-temperature service.

Cobalt-based alloy powders are produced with cobalt as the matrix, alloyed with chromium, tungsten, nickel and carbon. They are designed for the most demanding applications requiring a combination of high-temperature hardness, fatigue resistance, cavitation resistance and corrosion resistance.

Equivalent in performance to the well-known Stellite 6, 12 and 21 grades, our cobalt-based powders are widely applied via PTA welding, laser cladding, HVOF and oxy-acetylene spray-fuse processes for valve seats, exhaust valves, turbine components and hot extrusion tooling.

Their unique combination of metal-to-metal wear resistance, galling resistance and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures makes them indispensable in oil & gas, power generation and aerospace repair applications.

Application Notes

How to Specify & Apply

1

Identify the Service Envelope

Determine the dominant wear mode (abrasion, erosion, adhesion, corrosion, oxidation), operating temperature and impact load. This narrows the grade selection to 2-3 candidates.

2

Match the Process

Each grade is validated for specific deposition processes. The "Application Process" field above shows HVOF, HVAF, APS, PTA, LMD, OFS or CAW compatibility.

3

Choose the Particle Size

Particle size controls deposit density and surface finish. Fine cuts (15-30um) for thin dense coatings; coarser cuts (45-90um) for thick build-up and high deposition rate.

4

Request a Sample

Most grades ship with a 1-2 kg sample for in-house process qualification. Our engineers will support parameter development on your equipment.
